The Bebersee region: a harmonious triad of music, nature and culture
Listen to exciting music in the evening and take a walk in the forest or by the lake during the day. Hardly any other festival offers a similar ambience. In addition to our concerts, you can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Schorfheide-Chorin biosphere reserve.
Nature
Founded in 1990, the Schorfheide-Chorin biosphere reserve in the Uckermark is one of the largest nature reserves in Germany and the largest contiguous forest area in Europe, covering almost 1300 square meters. Characterized by more than 200 lakes and an incomparably diverse flora and fauna, the Schorfheide in the Uckermark offers nature-loving and recreation-seeking guests as well as culture lovers numerous opportunities for development.
Despite all the historical changes, the Uckermark has retained its original character to this day. Here you will find opportunities for a relaxing break or an active vacation. Well-developed cycle paths, hiking trails and waterways invite you to explore the area – on foot, on two wheels or by canoe.
Culture
The impressive cultural landscape bears witness to the eventful history of the Uckermark with Stone Age burial mounds, Bronze Age burial mounds, Slavic fortifications, Germanic ramparts and other cultural-historical buildings such as the fieldstone churches.
After the original Slavic settlement from the 6th century, the Dukes of Pomerania took over in the 12th century, followed by the Brandenburg Ascanians in the 13th century. After the death of the last Brandenburg Margrave, King Sigismund appointed the Nuremberg Burgrave Frederick of Hohenzollern as administrator of the Margraviate in 1411, followed by his appointment as Brandenburg Elector in 1417. At the same time, he was officially enfeoffed with the Margraviate of Brandenburg. In 1479, the Uckermark finally became part of the Brandenburg Electorate.
In the 18th century, the whole of Brandenburg became part of the new Kingdom of Prussia. The villages in the municipality of Groß Dölln date back to the middle of the 18th century: Bebersee, Groß Dölln, Klein Dölln and Groß Väter.
Numerous museums provide information about the history, folklore and customs of the region and, last but not least, an artists’ trail leads to more than 30 art courtyards and studios.
